I used to work in the mountains. On average, 3 to 4 thousand feet above sea level. Around, this time of year, we would get snow in the hills, and we would get laid off for 3 months. We would keep trying to drive up the hills till we couldn’t make it any more. On average we would drive until we would spin out, slip back to more level spot, and try again. Slipping back was the hairy part where by it was steep on the down side. We would try about 3 times and radio to the camp we can’t make it and they would tell us to go home. We took turns in driving. On this one really miserable steep site, the driver drove as far as he could, and froze at the wheel. Needless to say, we all got out and got him out of the drivers seat, and picked straws to who would back the truck back down. The winner of the draw, Haw, Haw didn’t know how he made it, and lived. Well, he put it in reverse and slid down. Fine job. We went home.
