The logging camp at Toba inlet is a remote place, only accessible by boat or airplane. For the first while, we went in and out by airplane, which was a seaplane, carrying seven passengers. We would come out of camp once a month for about four days home time. Eighty dollars it would cost, round trip. So having a small sixteen-foot boat, decided to go in and out by boat. It worked out quite well, except, missing the turn into the inlet a few times, and winding up at an Indian village called churchhouse. The people there were nice enough except, looking at us, (white greenhorns). Time to go home again, the boss picked us three hours late to take us to the boat. Toba inlet had a storm (five foot waves) got dark (no lights on boat) It took us many hours to get home, watching for dead heads, and other debris. Last trip in my boat, to camp. We were quite calm, I thought. Just because we had life-jackets on, doesn’t mean nothing.
